Once again I would like to thank all of the students who submitted applications for this year's Unlock your Future Scholarships. It was an absolute pleasure to learn about the incredible students throughout the Lower Mainland who are making a difference in their schools and communities.

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2010 Unlock your Future Scholarships: Kelsey Haveman of Abbotsford, Laura Lintott of Richmond and Alexa Dobie of Abbotsford.  Check back next week for more information on these phenomenal students!

With a new year comes a fresh round of scholarships and some exciting additions to the UYF website! The 2010 Scholarship Calendar is now available to download and can be found here. In addition, the Unlock your Future 2010 Scholarship Application is also available here. I look forward to receiving your applications!

Some exciting news: the BC School Counsellors Association has taken over the maintenance of BC Awards Online and the site is up and running again! The new URL is http://www.bcawardsonline.org. For more information on the site's re-launch, check out the article on the BC School Counsellors Association's website here. I'm very happy to see that this great resource is back!

Welcome back to school! I hope the first few weeks of September have been smooth for everyone. With September comes the start of a new scholarship season and some exciting additions to the UYF Program. In the coming months, stay tuned for an updated Scholarship Calendar and an official UYF Workbook.

Once again I would like to thank all of the students who applied for the Unlock your Future Scholarships. It was a new and interesting experience to be the one reading the applications rather than the one writing them! It was a pleasure to learn about all the incredible community work that students are involved in and their dedication to their passions. It was a difficult decision to make and I received so many phenomenal applications that I have chosen to modify the original terms I set out: I have turned the original two scholarships into three by divvying them up into one $400 scholarship and two $200 scholarships. Congratulations to the inaugural recipients of the Unlock your Future Scholarships: Samantha Reeve of Mission, Brayden Koslowsky of Abbotsford and Frieda-Raye Green of Victoria.  Check back soon for more information on these outstanding students!

 

I was inspired and motivated by all the students who sent in applications.  To all who applied, I have written personal letters to each of you and those will be mailed this week.

 

I am so happy I had the opportunity to give out Unlock your Future Scholarships for the first time and I look forward to future years of building this scholarship program!

      The Student Resource Centre is now launched on the site! The main feature is the Unlock your Future Calendar. The resource centre also includes a scholarship application list and ways to find volunteering opportunities.
 
     Also, a special thank-you to all the students who took the time to submit a questionnaire! Your comments were very helpful and we appreciate your input!

        By November 27th, a Student Resource Centre will be launched on the site! A major component of this will be a free Unlock your Future Calendar, that students will be able to download, that lists scholarships and awards with deadlines in the coming months. Stay tuned!
